Summer Reading Policy:
Students are tested on their summer reading within the first two weeks of school.
A make-up test day for students who enroll after August 1 will be set and announced at the beginning of the school year. All other students will be expected to take tests during the first two weeks of school. The specific testing date is set by the English Department.
English I: The Chosen, by Chaim Potok, and A Tree Grows In Brooklyn, by Betty Smith. Honors English I
should read these two plus one of their choice from the HAISLN list.
English II: Ender’s Game, by Orson Scott Card, and Standing in The Rainbow, by Fannie Flagg.
Honors English II should read these two plus one of their choice from the HAISLN list.

English III: The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway, and Death of a Salesman by Arthur
Miller. AP English III adds All the King’s Men by Robert Penn Warren.
English IV: The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, and Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw.
AP English IV adds Tess of the d’ Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy.
