Guidance Department Services
Mrs. Cox is visiting 10th and 11th grade English classrooms from September 24th through the 30th to distribute PSAT guides and discuss the exam. Be sure to take the practice test included in the guide before the test date, which is Wednesday, October 16th.
On PSAT day, only tenth and eleventh graders will come to school – ninth and twelfth grades will stay home. The test will begin promptly at 8 AM so don’t be late! The test will run until approximately 11:45, but no one will be dismissed until the entire school has finished testing, so an exact dismissal date is not certain. Please note that this is a regular dress day, so students should be in uniform, but Mass dress is not required. Students taking the PSAT should bring two (2) #2 pencils and a calculator only – no other books or materials are needed on this day.
Students will be in assigned classrooms; the information will be posted on the bulletin boards by the counselor’s office and in the half-caf the day before the exam.
The PLAN (pre-ACT) will be administered on Monday, November 11, 2013 to students in grades 9 and 10. Mrs. Cox will be distributing information about this test to students sometime in October. Parents can go to the website www.act.org for more information about the test.
AP (Advanced Placement) tests will be administered in the spring to students who are currently taking an AP class and wish to take the test. The AP Exam Schedule for 2014 will be Monday, May 5- Friday, May 16.
The Hugh O’ Brien Leadership Award is an award given to one 10th grade student each year. This is a highly respected leadership opportunity and is wonderful for developing leadership skills. We will be presenting applications for this award to 10th graders during September. More information on this program can be found at www.hoby.org.
Parents can contact Mrs. Cox if they need information about other concerns as well.
